Pune: The state govt has approved Rs47.65 crore for the city CCTV surveillance project, aiming to strengthen crime prevention and improve public safety through an expanded monitoring network. The funds, which will be released from the police capital expenditure allocation under the state govt’s 2026-27 budget, were approved after a review committee evaluated the project’s progress on Oct 5. The detailed project report and tender for phase 2 received administrative approval on Feb 26, 2024, at Rs438.22 crore. The state govt later granted a revised approval on April 28, 2025, for a total of Rs512.84 crore. This included Rs433.44 crore for phase 2 and Rs79.40 crore dedicated to installing advanced night-vision cameras at accident black spots in ghats, hills, mountainous stretches, and isolated areas within Pune city limits.
“An expanded CCTV network will help Pune police monitor public spaces more effectively, respond swiftly to incidents, and strengthen crime prevention,” additional chief secretary (home) Manisha Mhaiskar told TOI on Friday. Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar said he had been actively pursuing the matter with the state govt. She added that the project was implemented to meet a specific expansion request made by Pune police. The GR clarifies that while the Pune police will remain the nodal authority for surveillance, the appointed agency will handle system maintenance. The newly issued GR relates to funding for an ongoing project,” Kumar stated.
“At a meeting earlier this month, I raised the issue to speed up the disbursal of funds.
