A scooter stuck beneath the school bus where the accident occurred on Wednesday
Pune: A 16-year-old boy died hours after being under medical care at a hospital on Wednesday night after a school bus and the scooter on which he was riding pillion collided head-on near War Memorial in Ghorpadi around 7.30am. Riya Kudale (18), his elder sister and complainant against the school bus driver in the case, was riding the scooter at the time of the accident. “However, the accident caused the school bus to drag the scooter for almost 15 feet after the vehicles collided.
Pandit Rejitwad, senior inspector of Wanowrie police station, said, “We have arrested the school bus driver, Dattatray Sagar (26) of Hadapsar, for causing death due to his rash and negligent driving.
We have also written a letter to the school and sought its documents and other details,” he said. The school bus, which belonged to a private English-medium school, was heading towards Camp to pick up students,” he said. He was then dragged and hence got critically injured,” he said.
The deceased has been identified as Rohit Laxman Kudale, a resident of Manjari Budruk and a school student. Riya, a college student, had also suffered injuries in the accident. However, she was discharged from the hospital after preliminary treatment. “We have impounded the bus. Soon, the regional transport officials would inspect the vehicle. “At this point, we do not know where the siblings were going on their two-wheeler. We only know that they were heading towards Bhairobanala from Camp. We suspect that Rohit got stuck under the school bus.
