Nagpur: A promise of medical admission at a premium govt-run institute allegedly turned into a Rs10 lakh fraud for a family, with police registering a case against a 43-year-old man accused of taking money from the girl’s father and preparing fake documents in the garb of securing her medical admission.
Dinesh Thakre (43) of Bharatwada Road, approached the accused, identified as Ashish Goswami (also around 43) and from the Bharatwada Road area, after his 19-year-old daughter, who had qualified NEET , sought admission in a medical college, according to the complaint. Thakre then allegedly paid Rs10 lakh in several instalments between August 2025 and May 2026. Following an inquiry, a case was registered on Sept 26 at Kalamna police station. In March 2026, an aspirant’s father was allegedly cheated of Rs14 lakh after being promised an MBBS seat for his daughter. In May 2025, four people were booked for allegedly taking Rs25 lakh from a parent after promising an MBBS seat.

Police said Goswami, who ran a tuition class, allegedly assured the family that he could arrange admission to a reputed govt-run medical institute. Sources said Goswami also made fake calls to some impostors who posed as the senior doctors to speak to the girl’s father to gain his trust. He had also flaunted close connections with two senior doctors from the same institute. The accused allegedly also supplied fake admission-related documents to the victim. When the promised admission did not materialise, the complainant approached the police. The accused has not been arrested yet. Download the TOI App.
