School Van Operators Protest Against Regulations in Nashik
On Tuesday, hundreds of school van operators protested outside the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Nashik. They demanded the withdrawal of regulations they described as ‘oppressive’ and called for an end to what they claimed were excessive punitive measures by enforcement teams.
The protest was organized by the Maharashtra Vahatuk Sena, the transport wing of Shiv Sena (UBT). Demonstrators parked their vans inside the RTO premises on Peth Road and held a rally, with a significant presence of women operators.
Notable attendees included MP Rajabhau Waje, district chief D G Suryawanshi, and former MLAs Vasant Gite and Datta Gaikwad.
Transport Officials Address School Van Drivers’ Concerns
A delegation recently met with RTO officials, including Regional Transport Officer Pradeep Shinde and Deputy RTO Rajashree Gund, to express their concerns regarding school van operations. During the meeting, Shinde emphasized that enforcement actions would only be taken against van drivers found to be violating regulations, advising against unnecessary punitive measures. Following the discussions, the protest concluded, but operators indicated they would continue to monitor future enforcement activities closely. They warned that they would escalate their protests if their demands are not met.
