Pune: A 49-year-old assistant police sub-inspector posted at Uruli Kanchan police station died after an unidentified vehicle knocked him down while he was crossing the Pune-Solapur highway in Uruli Kanchan around 12.30am on Saturday.

Police constable Ashish Ulhalkar (29) of Uruli Kanchan police lodged a complaint against the unidentified driver later in the morning.

Senior inspector Vijaymala Pawar of the Uruli Kanchan police station said the accident occurred in front of Shrikrishna Mangal Karyalaya on the highway. The deceased was identified as Ganesh Ratan Dabhade, a resident of Saswad in Purandar taluka. He was posted at Uruli Kanchan police station. The driver fled the spot without informing the police or reporting the accident. Dabhade succumbed to his injuries.

Details Emerge from Post-Mortem Incident

Dabhade was at Sassoon General Hospital conducting a post-mortem examination on an unidentified body recovered from a water body. After completing this task, he returned to Uruli Kanchan for dinner when the accident occurred, according to Pawar.
