Raju Shetti addressing sugarcane farmers at Pandharpur
Kolhapur: Farmer leader Raju Shetti will hold a protest march on Nov 16 for Solapur sugarcane farmers to the Solapur district collector’s office to demand a higher cane price for farmers. Shetti said that the cane produced in Solapur district has a lower sugar recovery rate, and hence the mills should pay not less than Rs 3,500 per tonne to farmers.
Because the weather is getting colder, moreover, the sugar recovery rate is increasing. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Kolhapur | Silver Rate in Kolhapur | Bank Holidays in Kolhapur | Public Holidays in Kolhapur Stay updated with the latest Kolhapur news.
I appeal to farmers to wait for some more days and not to rush to harvest the cane,” said Shetti. Taking a dig at NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar , Shetti said that to become a farmers’ leader, one should not be selective in protesting, indicating that Pawar, who also runs a sugar mill, had not declared the cane price. “To be a farmers’ leader, one should support farmers in the land acquisition fight, sugarcane price demand, milk prices, water demand and power bill issues,” said Shetti.
Shetti also opposed the data centre proposed at Ujani dam in Solapur district. Pawar had recently led a protest against the data centre. Download the TOI App.
Speaking at Pandharpur on Sunday, Shetti said, “I appeal to the district collector to convene a meeting with sugar millers from Solapur district and ask them to announce the price they are going to pay farmers, based on which they will decide whether to supply sugarcane to the mills or not.
