Nashik : With lakhs of devotees expected to converge at Saptashrungi Gad from Sunday for Navaratra, the zilla parishad health department has rolled out an extensive medical preparedness plan, deploying 42 medical officers, 80 health workers, six mobile health teams and six ambulances to handle emergencies during the annual pilgrimage. To prevent disease outbreaks, district health officials inspected water purification plants and checked drinking water quality on Oct 9. Health personnel have been stationed at key locations across the Gad to provide immediate treatment for dehydration, dizziness, exhaustion, gastroenteritis, fever and minor injuries, which typically increase during periods of heavy footfall. Six mobile health units and six ambulances will ensure rapid response and transport of critical patients to higher medical facilities when needed. Authorities have also put in place epidemic-control measures ahead of the nine-day festival. Taluka health officer Dr Abhay Bangal will supervise medical arrangements on the Gad, while Pravin Bairagi, medical officer at the Nanduri primary health centre, has been tasked with coordinating healthcare teams on the ground. Given the expected influx of devotees from Maharashtra and neighbouring states, the administration has also directed local bodies to ensure regular garbage collection, proper disposal of liquid waste, disinfection and maintenance of public toilets, and intensified anti-mosquito fogging and vector-control measures.
