Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : Sending a stern message to officials amid the drought crisis, the Beed district administration has stripped the Kaij tehsildar of his charge after he was found absent during the district collector’s visit to review the situation on Sept 26. All 11 talukas of Beed district are among the 74 of Marathwada’s 76 talukas where drought has been declared after Trigger I was invoked. It was, therefore, necessary to ensure that a competent officer was available to handle these responsibilities,” Johnson said.

The naib tehsildar will hold additional charge, subject to the approval of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar divisional commissioner, until further orders. Johnson cited the officer’s apparent lack of seriousness at a time when drought mitigation requires continuous coordination and close monitoring on the ground. “The tehsildar’s absence could affect the implementation and review of essential drought-mitigation works. The order does not suspend or dismiss the tehsildar. However, taking away his charge is being seen as a stern administrative response as authorities race to implement drought-relief measures across the district. The tehsildar is the key coordinating officer at the taluka level for implementing and monitoring drought-relief measures. The action followed a drought review meeting chaired by Kaij BJP MLA Namita Munde during the collector’s visit. The move has also put the administrative machinery on notice in the drought-hit region.
