Thane: A 56-year-old police sub-inspector was allegedly fatally attacked by a history-sheeter during a late-night patrol in Pokhran 2 after the accused was confronted for creating a nuisance in a public place, police said.
Police Officer Killed in Violent Confrontation with Suspect
A police officer, PSI Kisan Bhoir, was fatally injured during a confrontation with a suspect late Friday night. The incident occurred just before midnight when Bhoir and his patrol team responded to a disturbance near a paan stall. They found Raju Valmiki allegedly drinking alcohol at the scene.
When officers attempted to detain Valmiki, he reportedly became aggressive and attacked Bhoir. Following a brief chase, Valmiki hid behind a stationary bus and struck Bhoir with a cement block as the officer tried to apprehend him. Sunil Warude, senior inspector at Chitalsar police station, confirmed the details of the altercation.
Despite police efforts to subdue him, Bhoir suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital.
Authorities have charged Valmiki with murder and other offenses. He has a prior criminal record, including theft. Valmiki was presented in court and is currently in police custody until October 2.
