Police apprehended the accused aboard an express train
Thane : The Ulhasnagar unit of Thane crime branch arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly murdering a 29-year-old man in Ambernath following a dispute over Rs 5,000 collected as a Ganpati festival donation, police said. A murder case was registered at Ambernath police station on Monday under Section 103(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Following directions from senior officers, Crime Branch Unit 4, Ulhasnagar, began a parallel investigation.
Police said an argument over the money turned violent and resulted in Madhiwal’s death. The accused, Govind Ramulu Koli alias Chinna, allegedly murdered Sandeep Dileep Madhiwal late Sunday night after suspecting that he had retained the donation money without accounting for it. Both were residents of old Balaji Nagar in Ambernath West. Koli allegedly fled after the assault and planned to travel to his native place in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.
During questioning, police allegedly learnt that the fatal dispute arose over Madhiwal’s failure to account for the Rs 5,000 donation. Investigators learnt that Koli was likely to leave from a Mumbai railway station. They analysed his mobile phone data and verified information from informers. Three police teams were deployed around Kalyan railway station and nearby tracks. Police identified an express train, checked Koli’s photographs and apprehended him while he was travelling aboard it.
