Shriram Jaiswal (34), his children Avantika (11 months) and Ayush (8), and their relative Suraj Jaiswal (28) died before they could be taken to the hospital. Another relative, Santram Jaiswal (70), died while being shifted from Shahapur sub-district hospital to Sion Hospital . The car’s brakes allegedly failed and the steering wheel locked, following which the driver lost control of the vehicle, according to preliminary information given to police by an injured passenger.
Police said the exact cause of the accident was being investigated. Locals and Shahapur police pulled passengers out from the mangled vehicle. The accident also disrupted traffic on the busy Mumbai-Nashik highway for some time. Police cleared the damaged vehicle and restored traffic movement.
