Nashik : The district administration has ruled out releasing water from the Gangapur Dam complex for the Dhwajarohan ceremony of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, scheduled for Oct 31 in Nashik when President Droupadi Murmu is expected to perform the ceremony.
“The NMC will get 6.9 TMC as per the guidelines of Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority. On water reserved for Simhastha Kumbh Mela, the minister said 635 mcft of water for drinking purposes for Sadhugram has been included in the reservation. We have asked the corporation to take all measures to curb losses of any kind so that we will be able to give justice to the demands of water supply for the various needs,” said the minister.
District guardian minister Girish Mahajan, who chaired the district-level water reservation committee meeting, said water would be released only for the thermal power station.
the committee said demands from the agriculture and industrial sectors also need to be met Although drinking water remains the top priority. Mahajan said water rotation from the dams would continue as planned by the committee. It will be done,” Mahajan said. “We have suggested to the NMC to cut the drinking water supply by one day a week,” said the minister.
He clarified that the govt does not permit the release of water for religious purposes. “There is one release of water from Gangapur Dam for industrial use — the thermal power plant that requires water. There was additional demand, but that is not possible. Regarding drinking water cuts, the minister asked NMC to save water.
