Mumbai: Maharashtra nodal cyber police have arrested two of 22 foreign medical degree holders for allegedly obtaining registration with Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) using forged documents despite not clearing the mandatory Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE). TOI was first to report the scam on Aug 28.
The arrested students have been identified as Varun Akhade (28) and Sanket Unhale (26), both from Buldhana district. Police have also named 19 others as wanted accused in the case.
Police said the accused did not provide satisfactory information about the preparation of the documents, financial transactions involved, or the credit card allegedly used to access the portal. They allegedly accessed Maharashtra Medical Council’s online portal without authorisation, created login profiles and uploaded forged or altered documents to obtain registration.
The accused were produced before the court which remanded them to four days’ police custody.
