Mumbai: People travelling by autorickshaws and kaali-peeli taxis across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) will asked to pay revised fares with the help of RTO-approved tariff cards from September 1 as the government has granted vehicle owners a three-month grace period, until November 30, to recalibrate their electronic meters in line with the new fare structure.
Fare Revision Implemented Amid Meter Recalibration
Transport officials announced that the recalibration of numerous vehicle meters is underway, but will not be completed immediately. Passengers may still see taxis and other vehicles displaying outdated meter readings during this adjustment period. To facilitate the transition to new fare rates, Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) have approved the use of updated tariff cards, which will outline the new fare amounts.
These tariff cards are valid until November 30 and can be accessed on the transport department’s website. This decision follows the recent approval from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority for the fare revision, with senior officials finalizing the meeting minutes on Wednesday to authorize implementation across the region.
