Two arrested, minor detained near Ahilyanagar border for assault on minister’s brother, nephew

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : Two men were arrested and a juvenile detained near the Ahilyanagar district border on Friday for allegedly assaulting cabinet minister Atul Save’s elder brother Ajit Save (70) and nephew Ameya Save (35) during a dispute over road work in Paithan taluka a day earlier.

The arrested accused have been identified as 36-year-old Bhalchandra Sattavann and 21-year-old Sangram, alias Karan Pardeshi. Also detained was a 17-and-a-half-year-old juvenile.

The three accused have been booked for attempt to murder and other offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, police said. Police said action against the minor would be taken as per legal provisions. Ajit Save reached the spot and reportedly told those present that the matter had already been resolved, questioning why vehicles were still being stopped. Police said Pardeshi and the juvenile then allegedly knocked Ameya to the ground and assaulted him. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Rural superintendent of pPrakash Jadhav said the investigation was continuing. “The motive behind the attack and the role of all people involved, directly or indirectly, are being probed,” he said. Police said Ameya suffered injuries to his head and left upper arm in the attack.

Both are residents of Khandewadi village. A person who stepped in to rescue him was also allegedly pushed and manhandled. The incident took place on the Babulgaon-Naygavhan road on Thursday afternoon after some youths from Khandewadi allegedly stopped a vehicle over a road-related issue, according to police.
