Ujjaini Chakrabarty Joins Research Team for Bhāgavata Purāṇa Project
Ujjaini Chakrabarty, an assistant professor at Vishwakarma University in Pune, has been selected to join the research team for the Bhāgavata Purāṇa Research Project. This initiative is organized by the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies in the United Kingdom. The project aims to explore and analyze the Bhāgavata Purāṇa, an important text in Hindu literature, which may provide insights into cultural and historical aspects relevant to contemporary discussions in various fields, including sports and social dynamics.

Chakrabarty did her PhD in the Oral Tradition of Śrīmad Bhāgavata Kathā and its contribution to the cultural memory of India. She has laid an academic groundwork exploring the transmission and societal impact of this text. “Considered one of the most highly regarded and variegated texts in Hindu sacred literature, the Bhāgavata Purāṇa stands apart from other puranic histories through its narrative, poetic artistry, philosophical depth, and development of bhakti theology. “The research initiative at Oxford is structured around several core components designed to deepen academic and public engagement with the text. These include producing academic outputs and peer-reviewed literature through focused publications, archiving rare manuscripts and localized texts by collecting materials and surveying the field, to produce critical textual analyses,” added the statement.
