Pune: Impersonating ECI officials, cybercrooks siphoned off Rs3.9 lakh from an 86-year-old man’s bank account from Pashan on Aug 8.

The form prompted him to enter details, including his name, Aadhaar, PAN and bank account numbers, as well as debit and credit card details, the police said. The police said the link was actually of a remote-access software. The elderly man was an engineer with a private company. The form also prompted him to transfer Rs5 as a fee to submit the form online. By filling out and submitting the form, the elderly man ended up downloading the software on his phone and sharing his banking credentials with the fraudsters. He lodged a complaint with Baner police on Sunday.
