Vehicles involved in two separate Palm Beach Road accidents in Navi Mumbai on Sunday
NAVI NMUMBAI: In two separate accidents on the Palm Beach road on Sunday, a 36-year-old woman banker, residing in NRI-Seawoods complex was killed after the auto rickshaw in which she was travelling was rammed into by a cab near Sarsole T-junction signal in Nerul on the CBD-Belapur carriageway around 1.30pm. a 38-year-old man while driving his sedan, under the influence of alcohol, crashed his vehicle into the road media while heading towards his Nerul residence While in another accident in Vashi around 10.45pm. Nerul police registered an FIR against the accused cab driver identified as Mobin Arif Shaikh, 35, a resident of Mankhurd, who has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody, informed API Nakul Nyaymane of Nerul police station. In the drink and drive incident in Vashi on Sunday around 10.45 pm, the sedan driver Mihir Jadhav, a resident of Nerul, after crashing into the road median, fortunately escaped with minor injuries.
API Nyaymane said, “Neha Gupta accompanied by two other in the share auto was returning home from work, as the banks were open on Sunday due to the planned 3-days nation-wide strike from September 28 to 30.
“The accused cab driver Shaikh claimed that while approaching Sarsole T-junction signal, as the green signal countdown to turn red had began, all vehicles accelerated, when he grazed a car on his right and losing control yanked on the left when he crashed into the auto rickshaw and both vehicles skidded for about 20 metres and crashed into the traffic island at the signal junction,” API added. Fortunately, he escaped with minor injuries. In the fatal accident at Sarsole T-junction, the deceased woman was identified as Neha Rajivkumar Gupta. But, his sedan was badly mangled.

API Nyaymane further said, “The auto passenger Neha Gupta sustained grievous head injuries. Shashikant Chandekar, senior inspector of Vashi said, “Upon receiving information of the sedan mishap in Vashi on the Palm Beach road, when the cops reached the spot, the sedan driver Mihir Jadhav was found reeking of alcohol. While, the two other passengers and the auto driver escaped with minor bruises. Gupta was rushed to Dr DY Patil hospital, Nerul, where the doctors declared her brought dead. “Accordingly, an FIR was registered against Jadhav under relevant BNS sections and Motor Vehicle Act for rash and negligent driving under the influence of alcohol. As per the provision of the law, Jadhav was served with a notice under Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita,” Chandekar added. Download the TOI App.
