Students, faculty and staff participated in the programme and took a pledge to protect and nurture trees
Pune: Vishwakarma University, Pune, celebrated Vrukshabandhan 2026 by planting 55 indigenous and medicinal saplings under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam launched by honorable Prime Minister of India and tied rakhis to trees on the campus to express solidarity with nature.
Speaking about the initiative, vice-chancellor Mukund Kulkarni said, “Vrukshabandhan at Vishwakarma University is being celebrated for the third consecutive year, beautifully connecting our cultural traditions with environmental responsibility. Director, student welfare, Vaibhav Thakare, said, “Vrukshabandhan is an effort to take the spirit of Rakshabandhan beyond human relationships and acknowledge our responsibility towards nature. By tying rakhis to trees, we reaffirm our Indian tradition of respecting and nurturing nature. The plantation of indigenous and medicinal trees further strengthens our commitment to preserving local biodiversity and creating a healthier, greener environment for future generations. We hope that every student who participates in this initiative develops a lasting sense of responsibility towards the environment. The programme was organised by the Student Council in collaboration with Infrastructure and Campus Management, National Service Scheme and Centre for Employee Welfare, Vishwakarma University.
The initiative carried the message ‘One Tree, One Future, Together for a Sustainable Tomorrow’ and encouraged students and the university community to take responsibility for the care of trees planted on the campus.
