Stock of sweet seized by FDA in Jalna
On Tuesday, FDA teams raided two sweet marts and seized a total of 855kg of sweets, worth Rs1,26,090, acting on complaints of unhygienic storage and suspected adulteration. “Considering public health interest during the festive season, the 797kg stock, valued at Rs1,08,690, was seized on the spot. “The 58kg stock worth Rs17,400 was found with serious labelling defects and stored in unhygienic conditions. An official said the samples were sent to the food testing laboratory in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and further legal action will be initiated based on the reports under the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006.

In the first action at a sweet mart located on RP Road, food safety officers collected samples of mysore pak, halwa and sev for laboratory analysis, and found the entire stock stored in unhygienic conditions, with the operator running the business without a valid Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) license. The second raid was conducted in the Mastagad area, where FDA officers inspected the manufacturing and storage premises and collected a sample of sweet mawa . The stock was immediately seized and destroyed on site,” Karkale added. The raid was executed by food safety officers Ashwini Tambe-Mule, Vinod Osawar and Yogesh Chibhade under the guidance of Assistant Commissioner (Food), Jalna, Nikhil Kulkarni.
