Kottayam : A couple and their son were found dead at their house near SB College in Changanassery in the district on Saturday.
The deceased are Saju Antony, 64, his wife Anu, 59, and their son Savin, 33, of Karingada house. Police said a note recovered from the house indicated that the family had taken the extreme step due to financial distress. Police have, however, not confirmed it.
No residents were present at the time of the incident as it was a holiday, police said. Neighbours and relatives said Savin had also run up debts through online gaming. Saju, who ran a wholesale grocery business, had to shut it down after incurring losses. Anu ran a women’s hostel on the upper floor of the house. Savin was married for three years, and his wife is abroad.
Changanassery Police have registered a case of unnatural death and begun inquest proceedings. The bodies were shifted to Kottayam medical college hospital for postmortem examination. The funeral is yet to be decided.
