Madurai: A 26-year-old woman, whose wedding was scheduled for Sunday, was killed in a road accident near Vadipatti in Madurai district early on Saturday. She was engaged to Jeba Bastian, 29, son of Simeon Raja from Vellodu, who is serving in the Indian Army and is currently posted in Kashmir. Police said the driver lost control after the front-left tyre burst, causing the car to swerve across the road and ram into the motorcycle.
The groom, an Indian Army soldier, was injured and admitted to Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital. Police identified the deceased as Maria Belcia, daughter of Manuel from Sakkaiyanayakkanur near Kamalapuram in Dindigul district. At around 3am, near the Sanampatti junction close to Vadipatti, a car travelling from Coimbatore towards Madurai allegedly suffered a tyre burst. Vadipatti police registered a case and are investigating.
