The case was registered by the Cyber Crime Cell of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) under Section 23(4) of the Pocso Act and Section 67-B of the Information Technology Act. CHENNAI: The Chennai city police registered a case against the unnamed people who had published or shared photographs and video clips of a minor girl in connection with a Pocso case on Friday.
The police appealed to the public and media organisations not to share or republish photographs, videos or other content that could identify the minor in the case.
The cybercrime cell registered the case on Sept 25 and launched an investigation into the circulation of the material.
Police said photographs and video clips of the minor had been circulated through media reports and social media handles. The police said the Special Investigation Team (SIT), functioning from the office of the commissioner of police, was investigating the case. Members of the public who had information or evidence related to the circulation of the material were asked to submit it to the SIT.
