Chennai: Residents, NGOs and corporate companies can now register as volunteers through the upgraded ‘Namma Chennai’ app to assist Greater Chennai Corporation during the northeast monsoon and in the event of emergencies. To sign up, download the app and log in using a registered phone number, select the ‘volunteer registration’ option, and choose one of three categories: individual, corporate, or NGO/association. Through this, volunteers can work alongside the govt and the civic body during emergencies and disaster relief operations. Download the TOI App.

The civic body will coordinate with volunteers based on their skills. Applicants will need to provide details of any previous disaster-management experience and their identity proof. They can also select their preferred zone or locality where they would like to volunteer.
