Thrissur : Chief minister V D Satheesan on Saturday cautioned against “unethical practices” adopted by certain sections of the media. Satheesan said, “There is nothing wrong in criticising the chief minister or any political leader While inaugurating the golden jubilee celebrations of Thrissur Press Club. By doing so, they would stoop to the level of degenerated social media and create the impression that such unscrupulous sections represent legitimate and authentic journalistic practices,” he said.
Nobody is above criticism. But some media institutions are functioning without any decency or propriety and seem to believe that they can circulate any kind of nonsense. “Let them continue to tread that path. They can only be that way as they are like weeds that sprout after a rain spell. But media institutions with a distinguished legacy shouldn’t emulate such unscrupulous practices.
“I may be criticised for these remarks, but my statements are aimed at triggering a debate,” he said. Satheesan said UDF govt wanted to elevate Thekkinkadu Maidan, in the heart of Thrissur city, to the status of an international square, capable of attracting tourists from abroad. The amount may not be adequate for its full-scale development, but it is meant to initiate the work,” he said. Later, replying to the media at a reception accorded at DCC office, Satheesan said his govt was trying to follow a new functioning style by relying on the strength of traditions and responding to the requirements of contemporary situations.
“I know the importance and potential of Thekkinkadu Maidan, and that is why I earmarked an amount in my debut budget for its development. DCC president Joseph Tajet presided.
