DMK Legal Wing Seeks Probe Into Alleged ₹5 Crore Bribery Attempt

Rajmohan

Chennai: A day after school education minister A Rajmohan claimed that he was approached with a bribe of ₹5 crore for Tamil Nadu Eyal Isai Nataka Mandram president’s post, joint secretary of DMK legal wing I Paranthamen submitted a petition to the director of DVAC, seeking appropriate action. Paranthamen said attempt to bribe a public servant was an offence under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act 2018.

At the Tamil Nadu Day celebrations on Sunday, Rajmohan said he rejected the bribe and the post was given to folk singer Pushpavanam Kuppusamy, “the rightful person”. He said only Layola Mani, chairperson of TN Textbook Corporation was aware of the incident. Hence DVAC should file an FIR and the person who tried to bribe should be identified, he said. Jayakumar said if CM C Joseph Vijay claimed to run a clean and transparent govt, it should disclose the identity of the person who tried to bribe the minister. Dhinakaran said the issue was a sign of that the rot of corruption was widely prevalent under TVK govt.

He also insisted that the statements of Rajmohan and Layola Mani should be recorded in this regard. Shanmugam questioned the minister for not initiating appropriate legal action against that person.
