Kochi : Malayalam film actor Lakshmipriya has approached the high court seeking to quash the proceedings in a case registered against her on a complaint by fellow actor Ansiba Hassan , alleging that she and two others circulated videos on social media containing sexually coloured remarks against her.
A bench of Justice Jobin Sebastian on Monday directed the petitioner to issue notice to Hassan and adjourned the matter to Oct 22. Following reconsideration, the magistrate court directed the police to register a case against Lakshmipriya and others, prompting her to approach the HC. Hassan, a former office-bearer of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) alleged that the videos were aimed at tarnishing her image and subjecting her to public humiliation. Earlier, the same bench had directed the judicial first-class magistrate court, Ernakulam, to reconsider Hassan’s complaint against Lakshmipriya and others after setting aside the magistrate court’s order declining her plea to register a case. Her complaint to the police had earlier been declined on the ground that it did not disclose any cognizable offence and, at most, constituted an offence of defamation.
