The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Krishnagiri : A former village administrative officer (VAO) of Thuppuganapalli village in Hosur taluk was sentenced to four years’ rigorous imprisonment in a 2015 bribery case by the principal district court, in Krishnagiri, on Tuesday. The court also imposed a fine of ₹4,000 on him.

Officials caught Rajini red-handed while accepting ₹1,000 from the complainant. The complainant approached the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (DVAC) in Krishnagiri, which laid a trap. He was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

A village resident had applied to transfer a patta from his mother’s name to his and his father’s names, according to court sources. “M Rajini, who was then village administrative officer, allegedly demanded ₹1,000 to process the application,” said a court official.

Following investigation, DVAC filed a chargesheet against Rajini. Principal district judge VR Latha found him guilty and imposed the prison term and fine.
