P Suresh Kumar, former chief financial officer and chief general manager of CMRL, submitted the retraction statement to ED directorate in New Delhi on May 15, 2024, alleging intimidation and pressure during questioning by officers of the agency’s Kochi office. Incidentally, K S Suresh Kumar, the current chief general manager of CMRL had also submitted a similarly worded retraction statement on May 15, 2024.
In a mail to CMRL on the same day, Kumar said he had felt intimidated while providing statements and clarifications during interrogation. Kochi : Details have emerged that a former official of Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) has retracted statements he had given to enforcement directorate (ED). The agency has been had relied on them while recommending an FIR against leader of the opposition Pinarayi Vijayan in the Exalogic–CMRL monthly pay-off case. He has since resigned from the company.
The agency alleged that Vijayan received Rs 3.28 crore through his daughter and accused Riyas of receiving bribes and transferring funds to Dubai through Veena and his associates. ED, in a report sent to the state police chief this month, sought registration of a separate FIR under the Prevention of Corruption Act and other laws against Vijayan, his daughter Veena T and her husband, former PWD minister, P A Mohamed Riyas.
