A division bench of Justice C V Karthikeyan and Justice R Sakthivel was hearing a public interest litigation filed by M Seetharaman. The petitioner stated that under the guise of helping senior citizens, several others accompany them to get free darshan, thereby delaying regular devotees in worshipping the deity and causing much hardship.

Madurai: Madras high court on Monday disposed of a plea seeking a direction to the authorities to prevent irregularities in senior citizens queue for darshan in Subramanya Swamy Temple in Tiruchendur in Thoothukudi district.

Further, chronic patients aged between 60 and 69 years have a separate queue. During the course of hearing, authorities submitted that a board was erected regarding the directions issued by the executive officer/joint commissioner of the temple for darshan by senior citizens. The officer had provided instructions about the protocol in place for darshan by senior citizens at 7am and 6pm.
