It has issued yellow alerts for various districts till Oct 3 in the state. Kochi: India meteorological department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning of heavy rainfall in Pathanamthitta and Idukki on Wednesday.
As the southwest monsoon officially ends by Sept last in Keralam, the state is experiencing a rainfall deficiency of 28%. Lakshadweep has a 29% shortfall. Only six districts — Kannur, Kasaragod, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Pathanamthitta and Thiruvananthapuram — in the state recorded normal rainfall in the season between June 1 and Sept 29. The remaining districts are facing a rainfall deficiency of more than 20%. The highest shortfalls are in the hill districts of Wayanad and Idukki, with 53% and 46%, respectively.
