Kochi: The high court has orally criticised the state govt for selectively granting permission to conduct inquiries against certain persons while withholding it in other cases.
Sreejith, while serving as transport commissioner, had attended the inauguration of a private enterprise abroad while wearing his police uniform, according to the petitioner. Justice A Badharudeen made the remarks while considering a petition filed by Dipin Edavana, an assistant motor vehicle inspector from Kannur, seeking a vigilance inquiry into allegations against DGP S Sreejith. The court observed that it should not have to intervene to ensure that investigations are conducted. If investigations could be initiated only at the court’s direction, what was the need for a govt, the court orally remarked, adding that the state govt must discharge its responsibilities. The petitioner also raised allegations concerning the printing contract for driving licences and RC books during Sreejith’s tenure as commissioner.
The bench further adjourned the petition to Oct 26, allowing the state govt and Sreejith to file their replies to the allegations raised in the petition.
the court asked why so many allegations had been raised against a particular officer when other officers who had previously held the same post had left office with a good track record While considering the petition.
