Thodupuzha : Kalliar Police took former Thodupuzha municipal chairperson Saneesh George into custody while allegedly using a synthetic drug near Ezhaloor Temple on Thursday morning.
Saneesh was allegedly taken into custody with his friend and neighbour Nisar Mohammed around 8.30am.
Both men were under the influence of the substance when they were intercepted, according to the police. The police recovered a cover with traces of suspected MDMA and a glass fumer allegedly used for consuming drugs from the scooter on which the two were travelling. Saneesh had reportedly been under surveillance for some time. They were taken into custody as part of Operation Toofan by the anti-narcotics special squad of Thodupuzha DSP.
Saneesh had won the 2020 municipal election as a UDF rebel and subsequently became municipal chairperson with LDF support. He later lost the post after being involved in a bribery case.
