Kerala govt failed to deliver justice, argues YC neta tortured by cops

V S Sujith

Thrissur : Youth Congress functionary V S Sujith, who was allegedly tortured in police custody at Kunnamkulam in 2023, on Thursday came down heavily on UDF leaders for failing to take action against the police officers accused in the case. In an open letter posted on Facebook, Sujith alleged that UDF functionaries who had earlier promised to stand by him had failed to deliver justice even after 100 days in power. Because one year had passed after he released the CCTV visuals of the custodial torture in public domain, he disclosed that he decided to come out with an open letter on the issue.

He said he was seeking justice, not political patronage. But no concrete action has been taken so far, and I don’t know why, Sujith said. Sujith in his memorandum had said that punishment was not adequate. But I want to make it clear that we all continue to be with the UDF,” Chennithala said. When contacted, Sujith said he was not satisfied with the response of the home minister. What is needed is action against the police officers who had brutally tortured me,” Sujith said.

Sujith recalled that he had obtained the CCTV visuals of his custodial torture after prolonged legal battle. “They were suspended and increments were withheld. A detailed inquiry has to be conducted if another round of punishment has to be slapped on them. The northern range IG is conducting an inquiry into the complaint of Sujith. When the probe report is received, I will take the legally possible action. “There is nothing new in the statement of the home minister. Govt was saying this for quite some time.

The Congress top brass had promised earlier that they would take action against the accused police officers as soon as they came to power. Meanwhile, home minister Ramesh Chennithala has disclosed that action was taken earlier against the officiers.
