Kochi : The railway protection force (RPF) seized over 13kg of ganja found abandoned

Kochi : City police seized 6.15kg of ganja from the Kadavanthra police station limits as part of Operation Toofan on Monday.

The arrested person is Sharath Chandra Naik, 37, of Siddhapur in Odisha ’s Ganjam district. So far, over 60 kg of ganja has been seized in over five cases in the district. Excise and police together seized nearly 2.5kg of MDMA as well.

Police said Naik had allegedly supplied the ganja to the accused in a case registered at Kadavanthra police station last month, in which two Odisha natives were arrested with 12kg of ganja. Sleuths said with Operation Toofan driving most carriers and peddlers underground, rackets have been using innovative methods to bypass enforcement agencies. Officials said they have also improved intelligence networks as well to foil bids to smuggle drugs into the district through unconventional means.

He was arrested by the Dansaf team from Karshaka Road area. The arrest was made by the Dansaf team led by narcotics cell assistant commissioner T D Sunilkumar. Sept has seen a rapid spike in drug seizures in the district. The seizures included ganja being intercepted by RPF on trains and seizures by the excise and police departments. The month also saw 305g of methamphetamine being seized from Mattancherry. Drugs are being smuggled using high-end cars with inbuilt hidden spaces to stash drugs.
