Kochi : Crossbar of the railway track viaduct in Pandit Karuppan Road, Thevara, was damaged in the middle of the night on Sunday when it was reportedly hit by a heavy vehicle which passed along the road.

The crossbar was bent in the middle and posed a threat to heavy vehicles. The crossbar was placed below the viaduct to ensure additional protection for the railway track. “We soon alerted the police, fire force and railways. Since it belongs to the railways, fire force was not ready to remove the crossbar. Railway officials did not reach the spot despite our repeated requests. Since the railway track is used only rarely, railways was not eager to remove the crossbar initially.
