Kochi : Ernakulam district collector J Priyanka has ordered immediate measures to enforce

Kochi : Ernakulam district collector J Priyanka has ordered immediate measures to enforce safety standards along the NH stretches where road widening activities are progressing.

Five dedicated teams, comprising revenue, PWD, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), police, and motor vehicles department officials, will immediately begin inspections to assess the safety conditions across five critical highway stretches — Moothakunnam – Edappally (NH 66), Edappally – Aroor (NH 66), Kochi – Munnar (NH 85), ICTT Vallarpadam (NH 966) and Angamaly – Kundannoor (NH 544). Led by tahsildars, the squads will identify accident-prone blackspots, physical obstructions, illegal roadside structures, and unauthorized heavy-vehicle parking. NHAI will supply vehicles and drivers for these inspection teams. The meeting was attended by additional district magistrate K Manoj, rural assistant superintendent of police T B Vijayan, city traffic West ACP Saju George, joint RTO C T Arun, along with tahsildars, NHAI officials, local body secretaries, and PWD representatives.
