The accused also sought restrictions on the entry of media personnel and the public and on taking their photos. Besides seeking restrictions on college students gathering in court premises, which is close to the college, where the victim studied, they claimed that a public trial would affect their future and potentially influence witness testimony. The prosecution strongly objected to these demands, saying it are not legally sustainable.
Kochi : Ernakulam principal sessions court has reserved its verdict on the petition moved by all the 16 accused in the Abhimanyu murder case seeking in-camera trial proceedings. The court is expected to deliver the verdict on Sept 22. Abhimanyu, a second-year degree student at Maharaja’s College, was allegedly stabbed to death on July 2, 2018, during clashes between activists of SFI and Campus Front. The trial proceedings in the murder case are scheduled to begin on Oct 15.
