Kochi: Ernakulam Rural police seized 12kg of cannabis from a car near Angamaly on Saturday.

Charles Dennis, 29, and Praveen Das, 28, of Punnapra, Alappuzha, were arrested by a joint team of rural Dansaf unit and Angamaly Police. In Eloor, a West Bengal native was arrested with 14.13kg of ganja within Eloor police station limits. On Aug 31, a check conducted near Ernakulam South railway station within Kadavanthra police station limits led to the arrest of two Odisha natives with 12.15kg of cannabis in their possession.

Acting on intelligence received by district police chief K S Sudarshan, officers intercepted the accused near Angamaly TB Junction. The ganja was found carefully packed in bags concealed in the car’s boot. Investigators say the consignment was headed for Alappuzha. The investigation team included narcotic cell DSP C Binu Kumar, Aluva DSP Baiju Paulose, and Angamaly SHO PM Razik. The accused, who worked collecting scrap for a shop in the Muttar area, was caught transporting the cannabis in his scrap-collecting three-wheeler at Manjummel. With more than 38kg of cannabis seized in less than a week, police have intensified their probe into the supply network bringing narcotics into the district from other states. Police have appealed to the public to report any information related to the smuggling and distribution of narcotics.

Earlier this week, on Tuesday, Kochi city police conducted raids at two separate locations within city limits, seizing more than 26kg of ganja in total.
