Earlier this month, Kochi Metro Police had launched an investigation based on the complaint filed by the director (systems), KMRL, after data was shared in a WhatsApp group.
Administrative letters addressed to govt bodies, including state govt departments, railway board and ministry of housing and urban affairs, will require the managing director’s prior approval, according to a circular issued by KMRL managing director G Priyanka. The breached data includes confidential financial records regarding company transactions, budget allocations and financial planning, sources said. Kochi : Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) has imposed stricter guidelines on official communication by employees and offices following the recent data leak controversy. Private data belonging to KMRL staff, compromising their personal privacy, was also shared on the platform.
Official news and updates of KMRL must be released only through the public relations officer. KMRL has also introduced a confidential channel for employees to communicate sensitive internal issues directly to the managing director.
The employees who violate the directive will face strict disciplinary action,” said a KMRL spokesperson. The circular said confidentiality would be maintained for employees using the channel. As per the circular, correspondence relating to finance, projects and operations addressed to state or central govt entities must be approved by the respective functional directors. KMRL said anonymous complaints would no longer be considered. The directive said unsigned grievances issued in KMRL’s name could damage the organisation’s reputation and its relationship with govt authorities. Download the TOI App.
