Kochi : Maharaja’s College in Ernakulam has suspended two students’: The wider industry impact

Kochi : Maharaja’s College in Ernakulam has suspended two students’ union office-bearers for 10 days for allegedly obstructing the college’s annual convocation event which higher education minister Roji M John attended.

He said the two students were being punished for raising questions on behalf of students from Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit in Kalady who have been suspended for 60 days.

Students alleged the decision to be arbitrary and said students’ union members represented the larger student community at the college. Following the move, SFI held protests on the college campus. SFI state secretary P S Sanjeev alleged that the suspensions amounted to a denial of justice.

College union chairperson Pranil Raj and vice-chairperson Nafeesath Musliyar, both SFI activists, have been suspended pending further action. The college council will investigate the incident and submit a report, based on which the authorities will decide on further disciplinary measures.
