Kochi : The compressed biogas (CBG) plant at Brahmapuram could achieve its optimum capacity of 150 tonnes a week ago. However, the plant is not working at full throttle following the Kochi corporation’s failure to supply adequate segregated waste.

So, the quantity of waste treated per day has come down,” the official said. There were some initial problems, according to the sources with the plant. The CBG plant officials also said the biodegradable waste supplied by the corporation was not properly segregated.
After initial glitches, the operation of the plant gained momentum by the end of Aug. “We continuously increase the quantity of waste treated day by day. “In the past few days, the corporation has been unable to provide adequate segregated waste. The functioning of the plant was disrupted in April, May and June. Pieces of metal, wood, etc. in the waste led to technical issues in the plant during the March-June period. Then, BPCL Kochi Refinery, which set up the plant, began operations in a phased manner.
