Govt Mental Health Centre
During Tuesday’s hearing, govt submitted details of the steps taken and said a report would be filed on the next posting date. A bench comprising Justices Devan Ramachandran and Basant Balaji made the observation while considering petitions concerning the conditions at mental health centres. It urged the state govt to quickly complete the construction of compound walls at these centres, after which inmates can be brought out of their cells for treatment. Similarly, with regard to the condition of isolation cells/single accommodation for inmates, advocate general K Jaju Babu informed HC that some progress would be made and a report would be submitted at the next hearing.
Kochi : The high court (HC) said on Tuesday that isolation cells in govt mental health centres should be made fit for human habitation and cannot be maintained in conditions akin to those for animals.
