Kottayam-Alappuzha bund road to be repaired by Sept-end: Min

He announced that Rs 1.41 crore has been sanctioned from inland water department under irrigation department for the renovation. As an immediate measure, pothole-filling and repair work will be carried out on Sept 3, 4 and 5 to restore safe passage. The minister inspected the stretch on Tuesday during a visit to Kudavechoor along with elected representatives and officials, and confirmed the road posed a serious hazard due to potholes. He said urgent repairs were necessitated by the bund’s guardrails, which have broken down due to age.

The minister said the department would explore setting up an irrigation tourism project using unused and encroached govt land along the lakefront on both sides of the bund, and would also examine developing an eco-friendly park on the earthen midsection of the bund, which was constructed in two phases. Kottayam : The dilapidated main road running along Thanneermukkom bund, connecting Kottayam and Alappuzha districts, is set for renovation after water resources minister Mons Joseph intervened following complaints from residents.

Full-scale renovation will begin once the Vechoor church festival rush eases and weather conditions improve, with the minister assuring that the road will be completely traffic-worthy before the last week of Sept.
