Madurai : Madurai city police on Saturday arrested four individuals and seized approximately 1.450kg of ganja intended for local peddling. The arrested individuals have been identified as Kasi Viswanathan, 19, of Kadachanendal, Balamurugan , 28, of Thideer Nagar, Dharmaraj, 27, of Lourdu Nagar, and Sivakumar , 28, of Gandhipuram. A preliminary probe revealed that the accused had procured 1.450kg of ganja to sell in the city.
Acting on specific intelligence under the ongoing drive ordered by the Madurai city police commissioner, a special team carried out intensive searches across Lourdu Nagar locality near K Pudur, according to police sources. During the patrol, the team spotted four suspects who attempted to flee upon noticing the police, but the officers quickly surrounded and nabbed them. Police confiscated the contraban. K Pudur police registered a case against the accused, and produced them before a magistrate, following which they were remanded in judicial custody.
