Police said Arunkumar and his friends — Deepanraj, Madan, Inbasekaran and Bharathiraja — had bought liquor from an illegal bar adjoining a Tasmac outlet. “Govindaraj, 52, and his son Karthik, 29, operated the bar,” said an officer at the Uthangarai police station. Police arrested two men in connection with the murder V Arunkumar, who was employed at a private agro firm in Uthangarai. When Arunkumar returned the bottles and sought a refund, the duo refused, citing the closure of the Tasmac shop. A quarrel followed, during which they allegedly attacked Arunkumar and his friends. The duo struck Arunkumar with a stone, causing severe head injuries. Arunkumar collapsed and died on the spot. The incident was captured on a CCTV camera. The Uthangarai police arrested Govindaraj and Karthik. Further investigations were under way. Download the TOI App.
