Idukki : District collector Dinesan Cheruwat has issued a directive that night-time movement be restricted in plantation areas bordering forests, in view of the increasing incidents of wild elephant and other wildlife attacks.

The restriction will be in force from 6pm to 6am. Night travel and plantation-related work in areas close to forest boundaries should be avoided during this period, the collector directed. Plantation inspectors in Munnar, Udumbanchola and Peermade have been instructed to ensure implementation of the directive. Police will also intensify night patrolling in vulnerable areas. The precautionary measure comes against the backdrop of recent deaths in wild elephant attacks in Chinnakanal and Santhanpara areas. The district administration clarified that there is no restriction on public movement along major roads. Download the TOI App.
