Thrissur : Nine months after her death, the mortal remains of a four-day-old baby girl were exhumed at Edakkazhiyur near Chavakkad on Monday for postmortem
The infant’s mother, Muhaseena, 35, also died within four months of delivering the baby. Police had registered a case against the infant’s father, Ibrahim , 40, of Kalluvalappil House, Edakkazhiyur, and the mother under provisions of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act relating to alleged negligence.
The births had taken place at home, according to police. Police surgeon Dr T S Hitesh Shankar conducted the examination at the Edakkazhiyur Juma Masjid burial ground, where the baby had been buried, under the supervision of sub collector Ehteda Mufassir. Following the examination, the remains were reinterred at the same burial ground under the supervision of the SDM. The case has drawn attention to the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two other children in the same family. Ibrahim, who is reportedly an acupuncturist, has been accused of failing to ensure proper medical care for his wife and children.
The infant died on Jan 10, just four days after her birth. Forensic experts collected samples from the skull and other bones for chemical examination to help determine the cause of death.
