Sivaganga: Police on Friday arrested five more people in the double murder case reported near Paiyur in Sivaganga district, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 10.
A team of special police arrested Balamurugan, 24; Dhanaraj, 19; Santhosh, 19; all from Billur village; Satheeshkumar, 25, from Mathur; and Kaleeswaran, 23, from Alupillaithangi on Thursday.
Police said the two men were murdered in a case of mistaken identity. Mistaking the victims belonging to Surya’s group, the attackers chased the duo and hacked them to death.
After an earlier drunken brawl with a man named Surya , the suspect Satheesh returned to the scene seeking revenge.
On Wednesday, Deivendran, 27, of Kalaiyarkovil, and Poopandi, 25, of Siruvelangudi, were hacked to death by an unidentified gang. A case was registered by the Sivaganga Town police station regarding the crime, and an intensive investigation was launched immediately.
