Private bus operators in Kerala are stepping up their protest against the Priyadarshini scheme of KSRTC
The association will decide its next course of action in its state committee meeting in Thrissur on Sept 15. Private buses have suffered an estimated revenue loss of around Rs 120 crore in the three months since the Priyadarshini scheme was introduced on June 15, according to the organisation. More than 500 buses have already submitted G-forms and stopped operations, while over 5,000 buses have reduced their number of trips by half, the operators claimed. The panel recently recommended leasing private buses for the Priyadarshini scheme, declaring private bus services an industry and extending the operational life of buses from 22 to 25 years.

Many bus owners were unable to pay staff salaries on time even during the Onam season, while defaults on EMIs have raised concerns over financial institutions repossessing buses, they said.
